A History of ANPIR (1996-2005), from Group to Scientific Association

Abstract

The text describes the evolution of the National Association of Resident Internal Psychologists (ANPIR) from its creation in 1996 to 2005. Its origins date back to the concerns and needs of the first generations of Clinical Psychology residents in Spain, who sought to build a support system to address the challenges of specialized training within the public healthcare system. In 1996, ANPIR was formally established as a labor union to defend residents' interests and promote the specialty. Throughout its history, the organization has organized national conferences, advocated for the Royal Decree recognizing the specialty, and fought for the reclassification of clinical psychologists as specialist practitioners. In 2005, ANPIR transformed into a scientific-professional organization, strengthening its commitment to the training and development of Clinical Psychology in Spain. The text highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, commitment to the National Health System, and continuous training improvement to ensure high-quality mental health care.
